12 Signs Your Child May Benefit from Therapy
Children often show us they’re struggling through their behavior, not their words.
Whether it’s a single stressful event or ongoing challenges, emotional distress can impact how children think, feel, and relate to the world around them.
At our practice, we use creative, play-based, and trauma-informed therapy to help children process what they’re going through and build resilience.
You may want to consider therapy if your child is experiencing:
-
Noticeable changes in sleep or appetite.
-
Persistent sadness, withdrawal, or frequent crying.
-
Difficulty managing anger or big emotions.
-
Increased hyperactivity or impulsivity.
-
Verbal or physical aggression.
-
Damaging property or acting out at home or school.
-
Struggles with expressing feelings in a healthy way.
-
Exposure to family conflict, violence, or other trauma*
-
Running away or threatening to*
-
Talking about hurting themselves or others*
-
Harmful or age-inappropriate sexual behaviors*
-
Risk-taking behaviors like substance use or fire-setting*
*If your child is experiencing any of the starred concerns, we strongly encourage seeking support immediately.
Our Process
The Journey to Healing
01
Initial Intake
& Assessment
We begin with a thorough intake session to understand your concerns, background, and goals for therapy. This may include separate parent-only sessions for younger clients.
02
Personalized Treatment Planning
After the initial sessions, we work together to identify goals and outline a treatment plan tailored to your unique needs.
03
Ongoing
Therapy
Depending on the goals and needs, sessions may be held weekly or biweekly and may include individual work, parent coaching, or family sessions. Therapy is always tailored to what is most helpful to you or your child.
04
Collaboration
& Support
When appropriate and with consent, we may collaborate with other professionals involved in your care, such as pediatricians, schools, or prescribers.
05
Review
& Transition
Periodic check-ins allow us to assess progress and adjust goals. We support clients through maintenance and healthy transitions when they’re ready.
